Snow in Texas!!

Yes, that's right. I said snow! I heard on the weather station all week long that Houston was going to get snow last Friday. I was hopeful, but a little skeptical. I mean, one, it isn't even technically Winter yet, and two, it's HOUSTON! We are known for our strange weather and ungodly humidity... but snow just isn't a word you hear much in Houston.

Well, by 10:00 am last Friday, THIS was the view from my window here at work!

And, THIS is what it looked like outside at lunch-time! Isn't it just beautiful?!

I couldn't resist...I just HAD to go outside and play in the snow! It's sad, I know, but I haven't seen snow (that actually sticks to the ground) since we lived in Germany! That was over 15 years ago!!

And I just love how snow turns adults into children again! I saw this one man at a red light who pulled his entire upper body out of his driver's side window to catch snowflakes with his tongue! (I will admit that I too caught snowflakes with my tongue, however, I refrained from doing so while I was driving.)

Because of the hazardous road conditions, my work let us off early. I immediately went to scoop my Scooty from school so we could go play! He was so happy that he got to leave early! I asked him what he wanted to do, and he said that he wanted to go visit Daddy at work, so that's what we did!

This is Daddy having a snowball fight with Jackson at his work. I was lucky enough to take this picture just as he had thrown the snowball...Can you see it?!

On Sunday, we went to Crosby to visit Jack's Grandmother, Nanny Windham, for her 80th Birthday Party. After we ate lunch and visited for a bit, we went to the front of her neighborhood to play in the snow. Unfortunately, it wasn't real snow (you know, the kind that really falls from the sky), but here in Texas, this is the kind of snow we are accustomed to.

Just look at the size of the snowball Jackson has aimed Daddy. I think it's about as big as his entire head!

After we played in the snow in Nanny's neighborhood, we stopped to visit Santa and Mrs. Clause so Jackson could tell Santa what he wanted for Christmas.

As we were walking back to our car, Jackson says to us, "Mommy, I know that wasn't the real Santa Clause." I asked him how he knew that, and he says, "Because there's no sleigh and no reindeer!"

DAIELL CAMPAIGN PROMOTES COLE-PEARSON TO CAMPAIGN MANAGER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FOR CONFIRMATION, CALL:

Jeff Daiell, (713) 777-1776
Stephanie Zachary, (713) 777-1776
Christie Cole-Pearson, (832) 298-8887

DAIELL CAMPAIGN PROMOTES COLE-PEARSON TO CAMPAIGN MANAGER

(Houston) - Jeff Daiell, a candidate for the 2010 Libertarian nomination for Governor of Texas, has appointed Christie Cole-Pearson as his Campaign Manager. Ms. Pearson will be responsible for developing a multidimensional field strategy, mobilizing and coordinating volunteer efforts and activities.

"The Jeff Daiell campaign will provide a vehicle for voters who respect both civil liberties and the free market, reaching across party lines and the political spectrum. We are not conceding a single constituency or a single county to the two tax-subsidized parties." explains Ms. Pearson.

As a Libertarian, Jeff Daiell’s positions allow for an advantage on the gubernatorial playing field. Daiell’s platform includes the Texas Affordable School Choice plan; refocusing of law-enforcement resources away from lifestyle crimes to concentrate instead exclusively against violence, theft, and fraud; and respect for The Tenth Amendment. Complemented with a campaign manager who fosters the importance of Responsibility of Self as well as a dedication to Civil Liberties and Personal Freedoms, this combination is a reflection of efforts that are hard at work to provide Texans with the progressive leadership they deserve. The candidate welcomed Ms. Pearson into her new position stating, “I'm confident that Ms. Pearson's leadership ability to lead our campaign efforts will speak volumes. Her leadership experience is matched only by her commitment to serving the community and helping those in need of assistance."

As the founder of Luggage for Kids, Ms. Pearson has lead grassroots involvement activities to coordinate and provide donated luggage to Children's Protective Service for children in foster homes. She also hosts the quarterly blood drives at Gulf Interstate Engineering. Ms. Pearson has successfully transitioned her leadership skills from pageantry to public service.

Jackson's School Picture - Kindergarten 2009

Just look at how cute he is. I mean, really! I know as his Mother, I'm horribly biased, but can you blame me?! Just look at his eyes! "Lady-Killers", I call them.
He's grown soo much since last year! I can't believe my Little Man will be turning six years old in just a few short months...(sigh) Where does the time go??

FROM PAGEANTS TO PRECINCTS:

FROM PAGEANTS TO PRECINCTS:
FORMER MISS TEXAS TEEN USA
NAMED DAIELL CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR
FOR STATE SENATE DISTRICT 7

(Houston) - Jeff Daiell, a candidate for the 2010 Libertarian nomination for Governor of Texas, has appointed Christie Cole-Pearson his campaign coordinator in State Senate District 7.

Now employed with Gulf Interstate Engineering, a Top 100 petroleum pipeline design and engineering firm, Ms. Pearson was Miss Texas Teen USA in 1998. She is married; she and her husband Jack have one son, Jackson Alexander.

Ms. Pearson is the founder of Luggage For Kids, a non-profit that provides donated luggage to Children's Protective Service. She also hosts quarterly blood drives at her workplace.

Ms. Pearson's responsibilities will include seeking volunteers within the district, arranging campaign events (including speaking engagements), and serving as the campaign's contact person within the district.

Accepting the position, Ms. Pearson said, "The Jeff Daiell campaign will provide a vehicle for voters who respect civil liberties and who know that compassion requires 'Sunsetting' the statutes, regulations, and agencies that either burden the less fortunate or make it difficult for the private sector to relieve suffering. I look forward to competing with other State Senate District coordinators in making District 7 Jeff's best district on General Election Day, 2010 -- and I have experience with competition!"

Daiell added, "This is further evidence that the Jeff Daiell campaign will set a new standard in organization and infrastructure for Texas Libertarian campaigns."

Those wishing more information on the campaign can visit its website, www.JeffDaiell.com.

Happy Hooky-Day!

On Tuesday the 4th of August, we decided to play Hooky...

That's right, I told my boss that I wouldn't be coming in, Jack took his regularly scheduled day off, and we kept Jackson out of his last day of Summer Camp at his school so we could have one last "Hoo-Rah" as a family before Jackson started Kindergarten.

We told Jackson that we were going to take him to Splashtown, but before we went to the water park, HE got to decide where we ate for breakfast, since it was his special day. So he chose IHOP because that is his favorite restaurant in the whole wide world!

It was so funny to watch him eat his pancakes too! People watching him must have thought we starved him or something because after he so delicately poured each and every one of the syrups displayed on the table (there was at least six of them) on to his pancakes, he literally inhaled them! He had strawberry syrup from his lips to his ears!

Jackson was a little bummed because usually IHOP has someone there making balloon creatures, and today that person must have not been working. After we finished our meals, we practically had to roll ourselves out to the truck. We ate like kings!

Splashtown is such a fun place to go during the week in the Summer-time. We are lucky that we live so close, maybe 30 minutes (if that!) from the water park.

We were smart and printed our tickets from home so that we could bypass the ticket stand at the front of the park and just we just went right in. This method makes things so much easier for everyone, and you get to start having fun just as soon as you get your personal items in your locker! We all put on our 45 block sunscreen, and we were ready to get wet!

(Click on the picture to enlarge map of the Rides and Slides)
Jackson now meets the height requirement of 48 inches to get on the rides/slides. For a five year-old little boy, he's pretty darn big! The first slide we went on was called the Texas Free fall! It's five stories of heart pounding, side by side free falling excitement. Daddy went first, then Jackson, then me, and let me just say, OH MY GOODNESS! Jack and I both screamed...but not Jackson. No, he was either very brave, or too scared to scream! I think maybe it was a mix of the two. This slide was one of Jackson's favorites!

Then, we swam into the Wild Wave Pool. It's about a half-million gallons of water and every 30 minutes or so waves surge through the pool just like at the beach, only without the seaweed! It's great fun for the family, and is really nice for kids of all ages. They also have life vests available for free!

The Blue Lagoon Activity Pool, Tree House Island, and the Guadalupe River (Lazy River) were also a lot of fun. Jackson was swimming underwater all by himself in the Lazy River and he also hitched a ride on Daddy's back a few times. Tree House Island is a three-story play area with climbing nets, slippery slides, and a huge 1,000 gallon bucket that tips over periodically and blasts water over anyone and everyone who is standing below!

We also went on the Rip Qurl (I have no idea why it is spelled that way!) and Big Spin, both of which remind me of toilet bowls being flushed, Space Rapids, and the Tornado.
I have to admit, the Tornado was a pretty great ride! We rode in a quad-raft, and I was lucky enough to be in the position that made me face backwards pretty much the entire time, and it was scary! The ride begins on a platform set 75 feet in the air, then riders are set in motion down a 132 foot long tunnel and thrown into the giant open-ended funnel splashing back and forth on 5,000 gallons of swirling water. I seriously thought we were going to fall out of our raft because we went up so far on the sides of the funnel!

I really enjoyed taking the day off to spend with my husband and soon-to-be Kindergartner and our 'Family Fun Day' certainly was a lot of fun, but after four hours at Splashtown standing in long lines with the sun beating down on us in 107 degree heat (with the heat index), we were spent!
Jackson passed out pretty much once his seat belt was fastened, and I sat in the passengers seat looking back at his sweet little sleepy, sun-kissed face. Jack and I reminisced about how little he used to be, and how there are times now that when he moves a certain way, or when we catch a glimpse of his profile, it takes us back to the day he was born!

There are times when it makes me sad to think about how fast the years have gone by, especially knowing that I can never get that time back, but more often than not it makes me happy to see how much he's grown over the years. He's turned out to be quite the charmer - he's very intelligent and also very handsome.

We are all very excited for Jackson to start Kindergarten and I will post very soon to tell all about his First Day!

Our Busy Weekend

I will start with yesterday, and work my way back through the weekend. I am most proud of this one anyway!

Jackson can now ride a bike without training wheels!!!

I was milling around the house picking up and folding laundry (towels) in the living room yesterday after I came from from the Bridal Extravaganza when Jackson returned from the movies with Mimi and Pappy - they went to go watch G-Force. Jackson said the movie was "really awesome!". Jackson asked if it was okay if he rode his bike in our cul-de-sac while I finished the towels, and I said that would be fine. I started to go outside to help him open up the garage door, but he insisted that he didn't need my help, and that he could do it all by himself. Jackson waited for me to get completely inside the house before he opened the garage door to bring his tricycle out.

I had just about finished the towels when he comes back into the house telling me that I NEEDED to come outside right away and watch him because he could ride without using his training wheels. To be honest, I thought he meant that he finally found his balance on his bike and didn't need the assistance of his training wheels...boy was I wrong.

I go outside, not to find his tricycle, but rather his BIG bike that looks like a dirt bike that we were saving for him for when he got a bit bigger. The bike is easily 40 pounds, and he wants to show me that he can ride it. (It was then that I realized why he insisted on him getting his bike out by himself.) My heart must have been beating 90 to nothing as I was steadying the bike for him. Once he got situated, he began pedaling and made two circles around our cul-de-sac, and then went straight to the last mailbox without falling at all!

Giant tears filled in my eyes, and I ran over to him telling him that he was the Coolest Boy I knew, and how happy and proud of him I was! We ran inside and got Daddy so he could see too! Jack was so proud of him, and he went straight out to remove the training wheels off of his other bikes so we could put the other heavy bike up. I think it's too much bike for Jackson to be safe on...especially since he's just figured out how to ride without training wheels.

We are soo happy for him! He said that he's going to practice every single day until he doesn't have to wear his safety pads...I told him that it's going to take a lot of practice before that happens.

(I just wanted to note that once he came out and told me that he could ride, I immediately put his pads and helmet on. He fussed and whined and cried until Daddy, yes Daddy, said that he didn't need to use them. We explained that they protected him in case he fell, and he still insisted that he didn't want or need them, so he took everything off except for his elbow pads.)

Congratulations Jackson! You're getting to be such a BIG BOY!!!

The Bridal Extravaganza - July 2009

On July 25th and 26th, I was a model in the Bridal Extravaganza for Ventura's Bridal. I'm the second from the left. There were several fashion shows over the weekend for different bridal shops and designers. The gowns that I got to model were so beautiful! MUCH more expensive than my own wedding gown cost! My Mother came with me to help out backstage, and I was so happy that she was there. It's not very often that she and I get to do something together - just the two of us.

I got five blisters on my feet the very first day (Saturday) because Mom and I didn't know where to park, so of course we chose the parking lot furthest away from where we actually needed to be. By the time we walked to the Convention Center, I was limping (and complaining). I had to suck it up for the show, and if I do say so my self, I did pretty well. I didn't trip, or wince in agony while on stage. When I got home that night, I could barely move!

The next morning, I drained my blisters, and they felt a million times better!!! I could actually walk again! For the Sunday show, Mom and I certainly learned our lesson and parked right across the street of the Convention Center. This time, our fashion show was earlier, so we were able to find a close spot in the parking garage. The Ventura fashion show was a HUGE hit! The crowd was really into the models, the dresses, and the music!

I had forgotten how much I loved the runway from my old modeling days... It was a really good feeling. I did, however, get tangled up in one of the wedding gowns..my last one to be exact. The changing area backstage is so chaotic that we don't typically get to see what we are putting on next...we just grab and go. I didn't pay attention to the length of my train, and when I made a full turn in the middle of the runway, the train wrapped all the way around my feet! Some women in the audience gasped and their eyes were HUGE! I guess they really thought I was going to fall! I didn't though (THANK GOD!). As a matter of fact, I walked right out of my little predicament. It took about three good steps, and then my feet were free, and the train was trailing off like it was supposed to behind me, and I played it off so well! When I got to the end of the runway, I grabbed the side of the train and fanned it out so that the audience could see how pretty the back was. It got lots of "Oooh's" and "Ahhh's". When I walked back up the runway, I made another full turn in the center, sort of to make up for my first mishap, and it was perfect! The audience cheered loudly, and I very coyly looked over my shoulder, gave a wink, and exited the stage!

After the show was over, the owner of the store gave me a very nice hand-written note thanking me, and telling me how much she and the audience liked my performance, and she asked if I would like to be a permanent member of the "Ventura's Bridal Dream Team".

Going to the Mall for Earrings, Hair Combs, and Trampolines?? Oh My!

I had to run to the mall this weekend to grab some last minute items for the upcoming fashion show for the Bridal Extravaganza. While we were there, Jackson and I saw this set up in one of the wings in our mall. It's some kind of "Euro-Bounce" thing. They hook you up to a harness that it attached to bungee cords. They raise the cords, and then you begin jumping - higher, and higher, and higher until it makes every 'rider' squeal like a girl! It was very funny!
I told Jackson to do a back-flip, and he told me that he didn't know how so I explained that he needed to tilt his head back and look behind him, and then swing his legs over his head. He nailed it the second time he tried! In all, he did five back flips, and one flip going forward. The man working the trampoline told me that front flips are much more difficult to do than back flips, and he was impressed that Jackson was able to do it!
It was so nice that this was set up in the mall when we went. I normally don't go shopping at the mall, but it was nice for me to be able to go to a few shops, and then let Jackson do his thing. Then I was able to go to a few more of my stores, and then we went to get some cookies. Breaking up shopping trips like this makes it so much easier when little ones are with you, especially when they don't like "long stores". Helps to keep every one's sanity, that's for sure!

Jackson Lost His First Tooth!

Jackson lost his first tooth yesterday at school. We put his tooth under his pillow, and the Tooth Fairy came while he was fast asleep. When he woke up this morning, he saw that his tooth was gone, and there was a crisp two-dollar bill where his baby tooth used to be, and it was covered with glitter!!

I have to say that I am pretty disappointed in how he came to lose it. He forced it loose. Yup. Just kept pushing and pushing until it was wiggly. All of his friends have been or are losing their teeth, and he wanted to lose his teeth as well.

Here is a brief timeline of how long it took for his tooth to come out:

Last Thursday after his bath he says to me, "Momma, come feel my tooth! It's getting loose!" I felt it with my finger, and really tried to make it wiggle, but it wasn't ready. I didn't think anymore about it after I told Jackson to leave it alone, and it would get loose when it was ready to.
The next day, he left with my parents to go to San Antonio for a week. They went to Sea World, and also to a drive-through petting zoo. When they got back to Houston on Friday, my parents took him to Space Center Houston. By the time I picked him up Friday night, seven and a half days later mind you from the first "I have a loose tooth, Momma!"...his tooth was making sucking noises when he touched it with his tongue!

His teeth now looked to funny to me. His wiggly, bottom incisor was cocked over to almost a 35 degree angle, and it made it appear that he already lost a tooth!

I took him to school yesterday, and when Jackson would talk, his tooth would move back and forth and impair his ability to speak clearly. It was the cutest thing! When I picked him up after work, I was greeted by the happiest, most proud little boy holding up a Ziploc baggie with a teeny-tiny tooth inside. He was grinning from ear to ear!

Now, THAT'S talent!

Now, I know that I am horribly biased as a Mother, but I must say that I am so impressed by Jackson's talent. He has such a great imagination!
Just check out the tower he made! Have you ever seen anything like this? And the swirling turnpike...these are just wooden train tracks that he attached to his top drawer in his dresser. The entire thing is suspended by one simple attachment (his drawer) and somehow, the weight of itself didn't bring the whole thing crashing down! You can even see the two tiny rail cars he has positioned on the top of the track, ready to take off. Oh-ya...it worked, too!
I swear, if he doesn't grow up to be a politician or an engineer...

Jackson is taking Piano Lessons!

Jackson had his first piano lesson this weekend, and he LOVED it!. We enrolled him in the Suzuki Music Academy here in Houston, and he will have four half hour private lessons a month.

We have been waiting to put him in lessons for years now. To be honest, other than Jackson's apparent love for music, the biggest reason we put him in lessons is because Jack's mother, Evelyn (May God rest her soul), wanted more than anything for Jackson to learn how to play the piano, and in the end that became her last wish. After she passed, we inherited her piano. Jackson has always loved to pick at the keys, and create his own songs to put on 'shows' for anyone who will listen. I have to admit that it is actually quite soothing to listen to him play. He doesn't just bang at the keys, as a matter of fact, he never did. He is very meticulous and deliberate when he plays - and is very much a perfectionist.

My Mother came with us to his first lesson, and she and I both wanted to stay in the room to observe. I could tell that our presence was distracting Jackson's focus from his instructor, so I suggested that Mom and I leave the room. We waited in the lobby for about 20 minutes. After his lesson was over, he came skipping down the hallway with a HUGE smile plastered to his face! He was so excited, and said that he had a lot of fun learning the keys.

His instructor is Mariblanca De Pujadas, and she has quite the resume! Apparently, she was a child prodigy at the age of two, and began performing as a soloist, touring several countries in South America before the age of five!!! She studied with many prestigious master teachers, and eventually did her post-graduate work at Julliard School of Music in New York. She has over 35 years of teaching experience, and her students have been winners in many competitions and have also performed as soloists with symphony orchestras.

During the private lessons, students of an early age are taught the value of reading music, understanding note values and music theory to be able to understand the structure of music. Also, the student develops strong rhythmic skills as well as good sight reading skills. As the young student advances, he is introduced to the basics of music by learning scales, arpeggios and cadences for the development of technique and musicianship. Ear training is also emphasized as its an important tool to learn to recognize musical tones, chords and rhythmic dictation among other valuable things.

I am going to the store this afternoon to try and get "Key Cards" that identify each of the white keys on the piano so it will make it easier for Jackson to learn each key. If not, I'm not opposed to getting little stick-on letters to label each key, lol!

HAPPY (belated) MOTHER'S DAY!!!

Okay, okay. So I'm late in posting this, and I am sorry. This week has been one of "those weeks", and I, for one, am very happy that today is my "Th-iday" (pronounced Thigh-Day, and it means that I don't have to go to work tomorrow.)!

I had the BEST Mother's Day this year! It really was wonderful! My Mother's Day actually began on Friday at Jackson's school. They had a "Mother's Tea" to recognize all the Mommies in his class. Jackson got to open the performance by reading from cue cards, and let me tell you that I was soo impressed by his reading ability! He read like he had been reading for years! He didn't skip a beat! I really was moved to tears! He made me a (I don't really know what it is...sad, I know.) It is yarn that has been saturated in some kind of liquid starch, and then moulded to the bottom of a water bottle. The end result looks like dried silly string in the shape of a birds nest. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it, and I will probably put it on my desk as a "catch-all" for paper clips and rubber bands. We also had tea and cookies. After the presentation and tea, we went to the book fair and got him a book and a science project.
On Saturday, my Mother took Jackson to the Home Depot and made me a wooden plant holder, all by himself! Seriously, this isn't just the Mom in me talking here...it's really great! He used a hammer and nails, and it looks nearly professional!
Jack came home from work with 9 cuts of Oriental Lilies (my absolute favorite flower in the WORLD!!!) inside a beautiful mirrored-mosaic vase...and a card! It was lovely!

On Sunday, after everyone woke up, the boys went to Denny's (we call it Lenny's) and brought breakfast home. MMmmmm....I <3>

Miss USA 2009

I know there is a lot of controversy about the outcome of this pageant. There are quite a few people, Miss Prejean included, who believe that she was "robbed of the crown" because of her honesty and personal convictions as stated in her response to the Final Question at this years Miss USA pageant.

Miss California chose a card out of a fish bowl that had the name of a judge on it. The judge she chose was judge number 8, Perez Hilton, a Hollywood gossip blogger.

Mr. Hilton asked of Miss Prejean, "Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think that every state should follow suit, why or why not?"

Now, before I reveal her answer, please realize that this question was cleared in advance by the Miss Universe Organization. All twelve judges submit questions, six were chosen to be used during the telecast. This was NOT "a jaded gay man with an agenda" to corner Miss California because of the passing of Prop. 8 in the state where both Miss Prejean AND Mr. Hilton reside. If any of the other girls chose judge #8's card, they would have received that very same question!

Anyway, on to her answer of: "Well, I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. Umm, we live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, I think in my country, and in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised, and that's how that I think it should be; between a man and a woman. Thank you."

Okay, most of you who read this blog know that I am a former state title holder within this very system, and also have been asked to be a judge on numerous times for local pageants. I am fully aware of how this system judges and scores it's contestants.

Delegates are required to compete in Swimsuit, Evening Gown, and Personal Interview. Based on the scoring by the preliminary judges, and Mr. Trump, the 15 semifinalists are chosen to compete in the Finals. The fifteen ladies then compete in swimsuit, and the ladies with the ten highest scores, based on their confidence and fitness, advance to the Top 10, where they all compete in Evening Wear. Then, the ladies with the 5 highest scores will advance to the Top 5. They will then compete in the On-Stage Interview portion of the competition. The ladies are asked personal questions about themselves first, and then draw cards out of a bowl and answer the Final Question from the judge they choose. Based on their individual answers, their articulation, and presentation, each judge will rank the final contestants 1-5, 1 being the winner, followed by the consecutive runner-ups.

North Carolina, the eventual winner of the pageant led the entire competition that night! She scored a 9.198 placing her first in the swimsuit competition, while Miss California scored a 9.033, placing third. During the Evening Gown Competition, Miss North Carolina again came in first with a score of 9.470. Miss California, this time placing second, scored a 9.275.

It absolutely enrages me to hear people, especially Miss California, say that she lost the crown because of her beliefs on same-sex marriage. NO MA'AM! Miss Prejean was NEVER winning the pageant to begin with, and her scores prove it! ONE JUDGE cannot make or break a contestants placement, and there were twelve that night! Not only that, but if people were all that offended by what she said, she would have placed last out of the Top 5, NOT as the winner's 1st Runner Up!

Although Carrie Prejean was honest with her answer (and YES that is very much appreciated!), she wasn't very politically correct or articulate. Miss USA is supposed to be savvy, goal-oriented and aware. The delegates who become part of the Miss Universe Organization display those characteristics in their everyday lives, both as individuals, who compete with hope of advancing their careers, personal and humanitarian goals, and as women who see to improve the lives of others.

Someone, please tell me what the heck "Opposite Marriage" is?! Surely, she meant to say TRADITIONAL marriage. Also, when someone says that "they THINK they believe" something, well, it comes across as being soft on an issue. The point also needs to be made that Americans are NOT free to choose their respective partners for marriage because only 4 states recognize same-sex marriages...which is why this is such a "hot-button" topic facing our nation right now.

Seriously, ALL she had to say is: "While I personally believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman, we, as a nation are given the freedom to vote on issues that are important to us. This is not a federal issue, but rather a state issue, and I think it's best to let the people decide." BAM! She stays true to her beliefs, AND she doesn't offend the masses.

The point of my post? Her beliefs did not cost her her crown...she didn't win because she was never in the lead, and because she answered the question from the judge she chose badly. Are her 15 minutes of fame over yet?!?
Congratulations to Kristen Dalton, Miss USA 2009!

Easter Egg Hunt

Today is Jackson's Easter Egg Hunt at his school. I was actually a little disappointed in the selection of Easter Baskets they had at Walgreens. There were plenty of baskets clearly designed for little girls (ex, princess, pinks and purples, and small baskets that looked kinda cheap), but mostly sports-themed baskets for the boys. Since Jackson doesn't play any sports, I decided not to get him a themed basket. Instead, I found this wicker basket (durable for an egg hunt) that was fairly big (to collect a lot of eggs...) and the colors weren't to "girl-y".

***NOTE TO WALGREENS***
IT'S NOT JUST LITTLE GIRLS WHO PARTICIPATE IN EGG HUNTS, AND NOT ALL LITTLE BOYS LIKE SPORTS!!!

Each student was to bring a dozen plastic eggs filled with candy, stickers, or something fun. These eggs were the largest I could find. I wanted to get big eggs because Jackson's Primary class has younger children (ranging from 3 years to kindergarten), and I wanted to make sure that there would be big, brightly colored eggs for the younger ones to easily see and grab.

I will take pictures (not of the egg hunt since I am at work...grr.) of his loot when we get home and post them here.
I hope he has a good time, and that the weather holds up!

Resurrection Eggs

Lately, I have seen these cute little Resurrection Eggs, everywhere! This is the first I've heard of them, and when I saw how easy they are to make, I had to try it out! Heather has really great directions on her blog on how to make this project.

Resurrection Eggs are a really neat way to teach children about the story of Easter, beyond the Easter Bunny, sweet candies, new clothes, and egg hunts. It gives them a visual/tangible way to relate to and understand the true meaning of Easter - Jesus Christ's resurrection.
"Christ died for our sins and he was raised for our justification." Romans 4:25

I went to the 99c Only store and got my supplies for under $6.00! I checked around at some stores online, and the Resurrection Egg kit sells for $9.00-$13.00...I knew I could make it how I wanted, without spending that much money!

I cut a branch off a tree, and glued (liquid nail...LOVE that stuff!) the end. I took little white and purple flowers from a small floral arrangement that I had, and super glued them on the branches to give my Easter Tree a little softer look.

Finding something to 'plant' my tree in was the hardest part...I scoured the 99c store over and over looking for the perfect planter. I looked at Easter baskets, tins, flower pots...you name it! I finally came upon this little daisy thing. It's a decorative ball similar to a kugal ball, and it comes in several colors, but I liked the yellow best. I saw that it had a small hole at the bottom, and I knew I could use that hole to hold my tree! I was so happy I found this that I was literally dancing around the isle...Jackson was looking at me like I was crazy, lol! Then, I realized that my round pot would need a base so it would be sturdy and not roll over. I went back to the 'Easter Isle', and found a basic yellow flower that was covered with glitter, which completely satisfied my love for all things sparkly! I think it was a window decoration or something, but I had other plans for it!
I liquid nailed my new base to my daisy pot, and VOILA! A Springy look for my Easter Tree and Resurrection Eggs.
Once I had the foundation of my project done, I began making the trinkets that go inside the eggs to tell the story along with the scripture inside each egg. I hung the plastic eggs from curling ribbon on the branches, and I must say that I am very happy with how it all came out!
If you are interested in making your own Resurrection Eggs, here's what you put in the eggs:

(Bread) Matthew 26:26 While they were eating Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, broke it, and gave it to His disciples."Take and eat it," He said, "This is My body."

(3 dimes) Matthew 26: 14-15 Then one of the twelve disciples, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and asked, "What will you give me if I betray Jesus to you?" They counted out thirty silver coins and gave them to him.

(Purple cloth, representing a purple robe) Mark 15:17They put a purple robe on Jesus. . .

(Thorns, like on a rose stem) Matthew 27:29Then they made a crown out of thorny branches and placed it on His head, and put a stick on His right hand; then they knelt before Him and made fun of Him. "Long live the King, of the Jews!" they said.

(Scourge-a small piece of rope or thick string) Mark 15:15Pilate wanted to please the crowd, so he set Barabbas free for them. Then he had Jesus whipped and handed Him over to be crucified.

(A small cross) John 19: 17-18a He went out, carrying His cross, and came to "The Place of the Skull," as it is called. (In Hebrew it is called "Golgotha.") There they crucified Him.

(Nails) John 20:25b Thomas said to them, "Unless I see the scars of the nails in His hands and put my finger on those scars and my hand in His side, I will not believe."

(Sign saying "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS" or "INRI") Luke 23:38 Above Him were written these words: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

(Small piece of sponge) Matthew 27:48One of them ran up at once, took a sponge, soaked it in cheap wine, put it on the end of a stick, and tried to make Him drink it.

(Something representing a spear (i.e. a toothpick)) John 19:34 One of the soldiers plunged his spear into Jesus' side, and at once blood and water poured out.

(Rock) Matthew 27:59-60 Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a new linen sheet, and placed it in his own new tomb, which he had just recently dugout of solid rock. Then he rolled a large stone across the entrance to the tomb and went away.

(Empty) Matthew 28:6 He is not here He has risen just as He said.

"HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN, INDEED!"

Weekend Update...

Here's the run-down of how our weekend went:

On Friday night, I met Jack after work. He and I sat in a parking lot for over an hour and a half and were finally able to have a private conversation. A much needed conversation about...us. It was really nice, and I am glad that we were able to come together and share about our concerns, goals, and also talk about the strength of our relationship. He said some stuff that I really needed to hear from him, and after we were done talking, we both felt much better about the future.

We met some friends at a bar and grill called Frank'N'Steins (catchy name, isn't it?!) for a 30th Birthday Party. As soon as we walked in, I am handed a piece of paper and a pen, and I am told that I am going to sing Karaoke. I'll be honest, I wasn't really in the mood to sing, much less be in a bar. Since becoming a Mommy, I go to bed early, and I don't drink much, if at all. It was past my bed-time, and I wasn't sure that I wanted to be out much longer than we already were, even though my Mother was keeping Jackson overnight.

I wound up caving in since it was Cory's big 3-Oh, I sang her favorite song, "Criminal" by Fiona Apple. I used to sing that song to Jack when we were first dating, and he used to sing me Dave Matthews, "Everyday".

Anyway, after a few shots, err glasses of 'Liquid Courage', it was my turn to sing. Jack was sweet and pulled a chair right up to the front row where I was so I wouldn't be nervous. I miss a few of the words, but I pulled it off. After I was done with my song, there were several people who stood and cheered for me. That made me feel really good!

Once we sat back down at our table, a guy told me that I sang very well, and asked if I wanted to compete in a Karaoke Contest (for the next three weeks...). The Grand Prize is $500.00!!! Talk about incentive! Who couldn't use additional cash in today's economy, ya know?

I am still giving it some thought, but realistically, I don't think I can or want to commit to being in a bar for the next three weeks to sing. But.....there's money at stake, and you know what they say (whoever 'they' are), "You can't win if you don't play!" We shall see...

On Saturday, while Jackson was still playing at his Grandmother's house, I was flipping through the channels on TV when I happened upon this show on the LOGO network. It was awesome! I'm sure most of you have heard about Tyra Banks show, 'America's Next Top Model'. Well, this show is similar, but totally different...
RuPaul, America's most famous drag queen, hosts "RuPaul's Drag Race", a new reality series of the ultimate drag queen competition. The top 9 drag queens in the U.S. will vie for the title. It was fascinating, and I was hooked from the word, GO!!!!
For those of you that know me, you know that I love pageants...all kinds of pageants, and sparkles, and GLAM! This show embodied all that I love about the stage, lights and flair! (I'm sure I have an inner drag queen lurking inside me, somewhere. They are the bitch I wish I could be!)

I also participated in Earth Hour on Saturday! I am glad that I did, and I will be shutting down much more often from now on. I went to my breaker box and completely turned off the power to my house. You would not believe how quiet it was...Jackson was with my Mother, Tom was running errands, Jack was at work, and Leo doesn't talk back, lol! BLISS! There wasn't any humming from the refrigerator, or any other appliances. I opened up windows through my house to let it air out, and I was able to enjoy the peace!
Technically, Earth Hour wasn't supposed to start until 8:30pm, but I thought it was silly to cut off the power to my house at night because we need to see in the dark, and I probably use more electricity during the day anyway. I still did my part, and I am happy I did.

On Sunday, we got some major yard work done! Too bad our heavy trash day isn't until Tuesday. My poor neighbors are going to have to see our trash for a few days... We also cooked out on the grill and have enough food to last us all week! Yea! No cooking for Mama! Whoo-Hoo!

This coming weekend, Gabriela (the photographer that did our family portraits) and I are getting together to do the Bridal Shoot! I am so excited! Tonight, I am going to pull out my wedding gown for the first time in a very long time and try it on. Cross your fingers that it still fits me! Wouldn't that be a hoot?! It would be my luck that I'd commit to a shoot, and then my dress doesn't even fit anymore, lol! Guess I'll try it on and find out. I'll post pics....win, lose, or draw.

Just The Facts, Ma'am

Okay, so I haven't written in quite a while because...well, because the stuff that I really want to write about, the stuff that is really beginning to get under my skin, isn't pretty. It's not pretty at all, and quite frankly, I think, scratch that... I KNOW my husband is tired of listening to me...umm...'complain'.

So, what better place to vent my frustrations than here in Blog-Land?! (Insert sarcastic smile here)
In my lamest attempt at humor (it's really all I have left...) I am going to use "Dragnet" as my inspiration for this post...err...story line.

( "Ladies and gentlemen: the story you are about to hear is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent." Cue instrumental music..."Duuun du-dun-dun. Duuuun du-dun-dun duuuuuuuuuuuuun")

"The Accidental House Guest"
(The premise of this story: The adventures of a young wife (Michelle), her husband (Quincy), and child (Alexander) as they deal and cope with a friends sudden change in status, both financially and figuratively.
It was Summertime in Houston, 2008. Hot. Humid. Always.
Michelle and Quincy had just celebrated their 5th Wedding Anniversary. A few months later, Quincy was made aware of some troubles his friend, T.J. , was going through. See, T.J. was an attorney who had a private law practice in Beaumont. Some may have called him a 'smooth talker'. You know the type...a charmer. He had a way about him that most people just fell in love with him instantly. You wanted to like him.
T.J. found himself tangled in what seemed to be a real web of deceit. He was gripping to hold on to everything he worked so hard for his entire life, but the tighter he held on, the faster everything seemed to slip away.
He lost his girl, his home, his car, and eventually had no other choice but to dissolve his practice and move to another city. T.J. was breaking down.
Quincy and Michelle saw what this was doing to T.J., and they wanted to help him. They bought T.J. a car...nothing fancy, but it got him from point A to point B just fine. They gave him thousands of dollars over the next few months, and even allowed T.J. to stay in their home with them from time to time.
And then it happened. T.J. got comfortable. Too comfortable.
He began to overstay his welcome. He'd stay one or two nights...then three, then four. Before Michelle knew it, it had been a week. She became worried, and asked her husband what was going on with T.J., as she felt like she was being left out of the details of his stay. Quincy assured her that T.J. wouldn't be staying for long, and he reminded her of the friendship he and T.J. had. They had pretty much known one another since Quincy was born, so Quincy felt a little obligated to help his friend who was in need. Michelle nodded with understanding, and tried to put her best face forward while her new house guest was with them.
Some days passed, and then T.J. was gone. Luckily, T.J. remained on good terms with his ex-wife, Carrie, and she offered her house as a place for T.J. to stay until he got on his feet. Little did Carrie know that this would come to bite her in the end...
(Three months later)
On the other side of town, Michelle was busy planning for their son's birthday party...an Astronaut-themed party. Alexander was very interested in Space, and Michelle wanted to give her son a great party to celebrate his milestone birthday.
The winds of change began to turn, and before Michelle knew it, T.J. was back...the same weekend of Alexander's party.
By this time, Michelle, had little patience left. She was focused on her son, and the party, that she didn't have time to deal with the demands of a house guest on top of everything else that was going on.
T.J. seemed to sense that Michelle was displeased with his current situation, and wanted to help. Though Michelle graciously thanked him for his efforts, she made it quite clear they were unnecessary. Well, she thought she was clear.
The day before Alexander's party, T.J. thought he would 'help' Michelle with a few dreaded household chores by taking all the clothes in the house to the dry cleaners, even though Michelle told him specifically NOT to touch the laundry, and to stop 'cleaning' her house. Michelle left to go run some errands, and when she returned home, everything was clean. Too clean. A wave of fear washed over Michelle because she sensed that something wasn't right. She asked T.J. where everything was, dreading the answer.
T.J. explained that he didn't listen to Michelle's pleas to leave the clothing alone, and how he paid no mind to the boundaries of the house to gather clothes and take them to the cleaners once Michelle left. He said it was to help Michelle so she could focus on the party.
One week, and $638.00 later (a bill that was NOT footed by T.J., and was quite a set-back for Quincy as he and Michelle had still not quite fully recovered after the purchase of T.J.'s vehicle...), Michelle got every one's clothing back.
Michelle was fuming! At this point, she couldn't even look at T.J. without nasty thoughts filling her head! Michelle would complain to Quincy about her frustrations, and Quincy would relay Michelle's frustrations to T.J.
Eventually, T.J. began staying at some local places in the city. Unfortunately, those places didn't work out well for T.J.
Three months later, T.J. was back.
Things were hard for T.J. He was out of work, and had no place to call home. He was a drifter that was falling into a depression that Quincy was afraid T.J. wouldn't going to come out of. T.J.'s behavior became more unpredictable and erratic. He was drinking, crashing cars, and doing God knows what else. T.J.'s attitude toward Quincy and Michelle's son grew tense. He began yelling at Alexander, and trying to excuse him to his room to watch a movie or play with his toys so that T.J. wouldn't have to deal with a young, curious child.
This angered Michelle, and her animosity toward T.J. surged.
Quincy and Michelle tried to explain to T.J. that his actions were out of line, but their words fell on deaf ears. It seemed like nothing they said to T.J. clicked in his head. They would tell him to stay out of their bedroom, T.J. would still rifle through their things when they were gone. They would tell T.J. to stop cleaning/re-arranging/re-organizing their house, he would spend all day on it, stating that he "needed to earn his keep". He would walk around their house in his underwear (or no underwear at all!), or feel free to throw things in the garbage that didn't belong to him because HE felt there wasn't the need for them. Quite simply, T.J. wouldn't take NO for an answer, and was absolutely clueless when it came to "house guest etiquette". T.J. was quickly becoming a nuisance, and there seemed to be little that could be done about it.
Quincy established a deadline for T.J.'s departure - March 31st. This gave T.J. more than enough time to get his affairs in order so he could get out of their house. Michelle thought this time frame was fair, but she wanted to make sure that Quincy meant what he said.
"So, what happens at the end of these 30 days, and T.J. hypothetically doesn't have everything in order?" probed Michelle.
"That isn't our problem, Michelle! We've been more than generous with T.J., and quite honestly, that is why there is a Star of Hope!" exclaimed Quincy.
For some reason, Quincy's words reassured her. She felt confident that soon, every ones troubles would be over. She just needed to focus on the goal...the goal of the 31st, and bite her tongue when necessary.
That wouldn't be to hard, would it??
As the weeks passed by, Quincy's attitude became more hostile. The little stresses of 'everyday' became mountains. Michelle grew more bitter and resentful , and Alexander would simply withdraw to his bedroom to be "out of the way". The couples bills were mounting due to the added expense of another person in their home. Quincy and Michelle began fighting for no reason at all, using one another as their personal whipping-post. Sometimes these spats would happen in front of T.J., and it didn't even seem to phase him! The once happy family was now falling apart, and all T.J. would do is scratch his head, shrug his shoulders, and say, "Hmm...wonder what's eating them?"
As the much anticipated "Goal Time" drew near, it became increasingly more obvious that T.J. hadn't done anything to prepare to move out of Quincy and Michelle's home. He saved no money, and he hadn't got a full-time job (he did some work as a substitute teacher, when someone called in). He did, however, manage to find a little shack by a river by the school he taught at. A rent to own (in 10 years) for $500.00 a month. Things were looking up, or so they seemed.
Earlier this week, T.J. dropped the bomb that he couldn't afford this place by the river, that he needed additional time to save money.
Quincy, without talking to Michelle about it first, told T.J. that he would give him an additional 30 days! When Michelle learned about this, she was heartbroken.
"We are at each other's throats as it is, Quincy! Do you really think our relationship can survive an additional 30 days?! What happened to the "Star of Hope??!!?!"
"If you have a better plan, Michelle, we'll use it. But right now, I don't see another option."
TO BE CONTINUED...

What Flower Are You?

"You stand up for what you believe in, even if it gets in the way of what other people think. You are proud of yourself and your accomplishments and you enjoy letting people know that."

I found this little quiz on Heather's page, and thought I'd see what it said...Isn't it funny how the answers to a select group of questions can be a fairly accurate glimpse into your personality?

I have other stuff to blog about as it has been quite a while since my last post...I'll get to that tomorrow.

7 Things That Make Me Disproportionately Happy

1. My Family. There is really nothing that makes me happier than spending time with my family! I love to give and receive long, tight family hugs. I love it when Leo climbs on the couch and sits on me or when he stands up and wraps his long arms, err, front legs around my neck and gives me a hug. I love to watch Jackson and Leo play together. They play chase games, and Jackson still likes to "Boo!" Leo to scare him. Even though he's a big dog, he spooks easy. I love lazy days with my husband where we lay on the couch, enveloped with each other.

Jack is in Sales, so any time we can spend together as a family is wonderful!

2. Reaching my goals. I feel so satisfied when I reach a goal, and let's face it...who doesn't like to be recognised for a "Job Well Done". I think it is important to set goals for everything in life, from household duties, work, to personal achievements. I think it makes reaching those goals that much more fun!

3. I LOVE a Sale!!! I actually get excited when I hear about other people saving money, too! There's nothing like going to the department store, expecting to spend "No more than x amount of dollars" (there's that goal-setting again, lol), only to find at the register you spent less than half of what you expected!
HOORAY for pleasant surprises!

4. My Friends. This one was a toss-up really. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my friends dearly! I also love my "Momma-Day". My Momma-Day is every other Friday because that is my day off from work. Jackson is in school, Jack is at work, and I have the entire house to my self to do whatever I please. I can sleep in, actually enjoy my morning coffee, be lazy, and catch up on my shows (Grey's Anatomy, and Desperate Housewives) that are on my DVR. I get to do things on my own time, and don't have to cater to any one's demands.
I chose Friends because if I had to choose between being by myself or being with the people I love, well, I choose love!
After all, friends are the people who know everything about you, and love you anyway!

5. Date-Nite. I just love to get all dolled-up when I go out...and it doesn't bother me to be over-dressed for an occasion. It makes me feel pretty, and I like to look my best when I am with my hubby. I want my husband to think, "Wow, I am a really lucky man!" because I think I am a pretty lucky woman to have been the one who tamed this "wild horse" of mine.
When I am by myself, I consider it a good day if I shower and change out of my pj's.

6. Learning. I seriously love to learn about new things. It's weird because when I was in high school, I thought that most of the stuff we were being forced to learn had absolutely zero relevance in the "real world". Turns out I wasn't too far off. It wasn't until college that I really started to enjoy what I was being taught, and I am pretty sure it was because I chose all of my classes myself, instead of being told what I needed to learn...does that make any sense?
Now, if there is something that I don't' know about, I completely immerse myself in learning everything there is to know about that particular topic. I am beginning to be a wealth of information!

7. Debate. I can't even begin to tell you how much I LOVE to debate with other people! Especially controversial topics, religion, and politics...and I especially like to play the Devil's Advocate. I honestly feel that when one debates certain topics, or even listens to arguments - especially in an open forum, people are offered the opportunity to gain perspective on another point of view they may not have otherwise been able to learn. (So long as the debate remains respectful. It takes all the fun out if it when things get ugly.)

Happy Birthday, Leo!

Our "Little Leo" is officially a One year-old!

I feel bad for not getting this out on his birthday. Leo turned one on March 12, 2009. He weighs about 110 lbs. and is close to 30" tall at the shoulder. His vet appointment is later this month, so we'll know his exact measurements then.

We really couldn't have asked for a better dog. He's smart, well-socialized, and has an excellent temperment with young children and babies. He's the biggest lap-dog I have ever met, and boy does he love to sit on people, I mean, snuggle! That's his way of being a cuddle-bug, and he's great at it!

To celebrate his birthday, I got him a cake (completely natural, and human-grade) that we all got to enjoy, an edible rawhide birthday card from all of us by the AKC (that he can't eat apparently because the rawhide expands when consumed and isn't great for animals...fun for a scrapbook though.), and a small brown picture frame that says "STUD" on it and has aquamarine rhinestones (his and my birthstones) on it.

Leo ate his cake like it was going out of style after we sang "Happy Birthday" to him. Jackson had a few pieces, Pappa and I had one slice, and Jack decided that he didn't want to eat any "dog food".

I can't believe he's already a year old! Man time flies by fast! Ugh!

Family Photo Time!!!

This past weekend, we had our Family Portraits made by the fabulous Gabriela Ferrel. She specializes in outdoor photography.

These images are pretty grainy and off-color because they aren't the digital ones, but aren't they awesome anyway?!?! I took these with my phone, and then made a collage out of them. I should get the original disc and photo release by this weekend when I see Gaby again.
She asked if I would be her model for her new Bridal Catalogue, and it should be ready just in time for this years Bridal Extravaganza!! (It's a good thing I can fit into my wedding gown again, lol! Although, I may need to try it on again before the shoot just to make sure...)

Thank Goodness It's Friday!

I haven't really felt much like blogging lately. My attitude hasn't been the best and it seems like everywhere I turn, there is some sort of "drama" in my life whether it be personal, issues with my extended family or trouble with my friends. But this too shall pass. I realize that there are things that I can't control (much to my dismay), and therefore I give them to God. In return I will find peace. Until then, I am a "Bummed-Out-Willis" without much to blog about.

I have been working on my own Home Management Guide (Thanks Heather!!), and that is making me feel good. If you don't know what a Home Management Guide is, it is basically a safe/handy place where you keep all of your important/frequently used household and family information. It's a great way to get and stay organized!

I am also looking forward to being featured on Heather's Blog. A while back, Heather initiated an "Interview Me" post where she will put her "hardcore journalistic abilities" to the test and ask 5 questions to the readers of her blog. She had such an amazing response, so she decided that she would feature two interviewees a week. Well, March 1st is my date, and I am really excited to play along! I will post my questions and answers, and if you would like to play along as well, leave a comment the says "Interview Me", and I too will put my journalistic abilities to the test and interview you. This is a fun way to get to know one another!

In the mean time, I completed this questionnaire on Facebook called "The Bucket List" and thought I'd post it here.

I Jumped Out Of A Perfectly Good Airplane, And I LOVED It!

On Sunday, February 15th, Jack and I went to Skydive Spaceland to go skydiving! It was my first time to jump, and I gotta tell ya...I LOVED IT! It was so incredible, and peaceful! I highly recommend it!

We jumped from 14,000 feet, and literally flipped out of the plane! For a moment, the earth and the sky seem to topple over one another, and then once you level out (just a few seconds) you don't even feel like you are falling anymore!

My instructor let me control the toggles of the chute, and we even got to spiral for a while!

As we were approaching our landing spot, I noted to my instructor that I could see my son, and I began waving like crazy! Jackson saw me, and started yelling, "I love you, Mommy!!!!" and running through the field where we were floating. I really couldn't have asked for a better landing. It was very smooth...just like walking! We were told to lift our feet when we are about to land so the instructor can determine the type of landing to use. There is the "Walk Out" and the "Butt Slide".
Guess who didn't get a dirty butt...

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center - Celebration of Life

On February 11, 2009, Christie was invited to the Reliant Stadium to receive the 'Path for Success' award on behalf of Gulf Interstate Engineering from the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.

GIE has now become a Gold Level Commit for Life Member, and we have been recognized for our efforts in our Quarterly Blood Drives! All gold-level Commit for Life groups that achieve at least 100 donations in a year are invited to Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's "A Celebration of Life" group recognition event.

The Path for Success award commemorates our achievements from the previous year. I am very proud to announce that in 2008, Gulf Interstate collected 65 units of Whole Blood, and saved 195 lives!!!

A very special THANK YOU to those that have made it possible for GIE to take part in this program - We could not have done this without your help! I hope you all will continue your commitment to saving lives in 2009!

Celebration of Life

Today, I will be attending a Celebration of Life Awards Ceremony and Luncheon, hosted by the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, at the Reliant Stadium .
I partner with GCRBC and host quarterly blood drives with our company and others in our building. Our company has reached a Gold Level status for the Commit For Life group, and I will be accepting an award, "Path For Success", on behalf of Gulf Interstate Engineering.

I will try and post pictures of this event later today when I get back.

Also, the time has come...
Our little guy is growing up so F-A-S-T! Tonight, Jack and I will attend Kindergarten Night, An Introduction To Montessori Kindergarten, at 7:00pm.

Life's a Beach!

Only in Texas...

Can you go to the beach in February, and not turn into a Popsicle. Okay, maybe that's a stretch because we were cold, but that's only because the wind was blowing. I heard on NOAA that the winds were gusting up to 30mph., but at least the temperature was in the low 70's.

This past weekend, Jack thought it would be fun for us all to go to the beach. We left our house at around 8:30 am and arrived in Freeport just after 10:00am.
We went to a different part of the beach because Galveston is just nasty. I apologise to those of you who may enjoy swimming and sun bathing in filth...I am just not one of those people who likes to get into water that I can't see though, much less lay on a beach that has trash all over it... Also, things are still pretty dilapidated down there because of the damage from Hurricane Ike, so we knew that the further south we drove, the more mess we were going to get into.
We wound up in Freeport by luck. Seriously, we were driving on 288 South, and a guy in a red truck passed us carrying a surf board. We figured that he must be going to the beach too, so we followed him.
I joked with Jack telling him how much I would laugh at him if instead we accidentally followed that man to his house instead of the beach! Finally, at a red light, Jack talked with the guy, asking if he indeed was going to the beach (he said yes.), and if it was okay if we followed him the rest of the way. The man obliged, probably thankful that we weren't serial killers or something, lol!

On Surfside Beach, you can actually drive and camp out on the beach using the beach access roads, and the end result is usually 3-4 miles of rather unpopulated bliss.

As soon as we got there, Jackson practically skipped with joy to the water! Leo hopped right along after him. Jackson wanted us to bury him, but I suppose we were taking too long to unload the truck, so he impatiently started screwing his feet into the sand without us.

Leo was such a good guard dog, too. He followed Jackson everywhere, even into the water, though you could tell that he didn't like it much. When Leo felt that Jackson was moving too far out, he would walk in front of Jackson to block him from going further out in the water. It was really funny to watch Leo 'heard' Jackson back to the shore!

It is nice to see the two of them get along and play so well with one another. I think it is important for a boy to grow up with a dog to bond and play with, especially since Jackson is an only child. Leo makes a very trustworthy playmate for him, so long as Jackson remembers to put his toys away...
